How to Avoid Rug Pulls on Solana

Most Solana rug pulls follow the same playbook. If you check these five things before you snipe, you'll dodge ~90% of them. Bots can automate the checks.

1. Liquidity lock or burn

The single most important check. If the LP tokens aren't burned (sent to a dead wallet) or locked in a verifiable contract, the deployer can pull liquidity at any moment and leave you with worthless bags. Tools like Rugcheck.xyz, Birdeye, and DEX Screener show this with one click. Most Solana bots (GMGN, Photon, Axiom, Guardis) flag unlocked LP automatically.

2. Mint authority revoked

If the mint authority is still live, the deployer can mint infinite new tokens, dump them, and crash the price. Always check that mintAuthority and freezeAuthority are both null. This is a 2-second check and it's non-negotiable.

3. Holder distribution

If the top 10 wallets hold >25% of supply, you're trading against the team. If they hold >40%, you're dinner. Healthy launches have the dev wallet under 5% and the top 10 under 15% combined.

4. Honeypot check (can you sell?)

Some contracts let you buy but block sells via blacklist functions or transfer fees set to 99%. Always do a 0.01 SOL test buy and immediately try to sell before committing your full size. Many bots (Photon, GMGN, Axiom) simulate the sell transaction client-side and warn you if it would fail.

5. Bundled snipes by the team

Check Solscan for the first 5–10 buy transactions. If 5 wallets all funded from the same source bought in the launch block, the team is sniping their own token to dump on you. Avoid.
