How to Set Up a Solana Trading Bot on Telegram
A beginner-friendly, step-by-step guide to getting started with Telegram-based Solana trading bots like Trojan and BONKbot — from wallet connection to your first trade.
Why use a Telegram trading bot?
Telegram bots let you trade Solana tokens without opening a browser or DEX interface. You get instant alerts, one-tap sniping, copy trading, and limit orders — all inside a chat window. For traders who want speed and mobility, Telegram bots are hard to beat.
Step 1 — Choose your bot
The two most popular Telegram Solana trading bots right now are:
- Trojan — Fast execution, copy trading, limit orders, and MEV-protected routing. Great for intermediate traders who want advanced features without a web terminal.
- BONKbot — Beginner-friendly, zero setup, and trusted by over 500,000 users. Ideal if you want the simplest possible onboarding.
Both are non-custodial: your funds stay in your own wallet and the bot only signs transactions you approve.
Step 2 — Start the bot in Telegram
- 1Open Telegram and search for the bot's official username (e.g.
@TrojanSolanaBotor@BONKbot). Always verify the username on the bot's official website to avoid phishing clones. - 2Tap Start in the chat. The bot will greet you with a brief intro and a menu of options.
- 3Select Connect Wallet or Generate Wallet. We strongly recommend connecting an existing wallet (see security notes below) rather than letting the bot generate one for you.
Step 3 — Connect your Solana wallet
Most bots support wallet connection via a deeplink or embedded Phantom / Solflare button:
- 1Tap Connect Wallet in the bot menu.
- 2Choose your wallet provider (Phantom, Solflare, Backpack, etc.).
- 3Approve the connection in your wallet app. You only need to grant the minimum permissions — typically "sign transaction" and "view address."
- 4Return to Telegram. The bot will confirm your wallet address and show your SOL balance.
If the bot asks for your seed phrase or private key, stop immediately. No legitimate trading bot needs this information.
Step 4 — Configure basic settings
Before you trade, set your default preferences to avoid costly mistakes:
- Slippage tolerance — Start with 1–2% for liquid tokens. Raise it only for volatile memecoin launches where front-running is common.
- Priority fee — Use auto or set 0.005–0.01 SOL for normal trades. Higher fees speed up execution during network congestion.
- MEV protection — Enable Jito bundles or private RPC if the bot supports it. This prevents sandwich attacks on larger orders.
- Anti-rug settings — Turn on liquidity-lock and mint-authority checks if available. BONKbot and Trojan both flag tokens with unlocked liquidity.
Step 5 — Place your first trade
Trading commands vary slightly by bot, but the flow is usually the same:
- 1Paste a token contract address into the chat, or tap a token link shared by the bot's signal channel.
- 2The bot will display a token summary: price, market cap, liquidity, and risk flags.
- 3Tap Buy and enter the amount of SOL you want to spend. Most bots offer preset buttons (0.1, 0.5, 1, 2 SOL) or a custom input.
- 4Confirm the transaction in your wallet. The bot will reply with a transaction link on Solscan once it lands.
To sell, tap Sell on your position, choose a percentage (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), and confirm.
Essential security best practices
Never share your seed phrase
A legitimate bot will never ask for your seed phrase or private key. If a "support agent" DMs you asking for it, it is a scam. Report and block immediately.
- Use a burner wallet — Fund a separate wallet with only the SOL you intend to trade. Keep your main holdings in a hardware or cold wallet.
- Revoke unused token approvals — After trading, use a tool like Revoke.cash or Solana Token Revoke to remove spending allowances you no longer need.
- Verify every link — Phishing clones are common. Double-check the bot's username and referral URL on the official site before tapping Start.
- Enable 2FA on Telegram — Protect your Telegram account with a passcode so an attacker cannot access your bot if they steal your phone.
- Start small — Test any new bot with a small amount (0.05–0.1 SOL) until you are comfortable with the interface and execution speed.
Common trading commands cheat sheet
| Command / Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Paste token CA | Pulls token info and shows Buy/Sell buttons |
| Buy 0.5 SOL | Purchases token with 0.5 SOL at current market price |
| Sell 50% | Sells half of your token balance |
| Limit Buy / Sell | Sets a target price; bot executes when reached |
| Copy Trade | Auto-mirrors buys/sells of a tracked wallet |
| Snipe | Buys immediately at launch before public price moves |
| Positions | Shows all open token holdings and PnL |
| Withdraw | Sends remaining SOL back to your external wallet |
Troubleshooting
- Transaction failed — Check your slippage and priority fee. During high congestion, raise both temporarily.
- Bot not responding — Try typing
/startagain. If still down, check the bot's official Twitter or status page for outages. - Wallet won't connect — Ensure your wallet app is updated and you are on the same device. Some wallets require you to approve connections manually in Settings > Connected Apps.
- Token not found — Double-check the contract address. Some bots only index tokens with a minimum liquidity threshold.
